Maria da Graça Carvalho met with representatives of Amgen International in the European Parliament. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming "Europe 2020 Flagship Initiative Innovation Union", and see Ms Carvalho´s views on the role of the pharmaceuticals in innovation.

Given the current economic pressures on EU's healthcare budgets, pharmaceuticals, and in particular biological medicines, play a key role in innovation and in addressing some of today's challenges such as EU's ageing population.
